Q&A
FAQs
- What to know before your visit
We suggest wearing loose comfortable clothes that give us access to the most common areas where the needles are placed (arms, stomach, legs, feet, head) with minimal uncovering of your body. Feel free to bring a change of clothes (shorts and t-shirt/tank top are the best outfit) if you prefer.

- How should I prepare for my first Acupuncture treatment?
For your first session, please make sure not to arrive on an empty stomach or just after an heavy meal as Acupuncture works on your Qi, which is replenished daily through food, and requires you to lie down for anywhere between 20 and 45 minutes. As many acupoints are located on arms, legs and abdomen it is advised to wear loose, comfortable clothes such as tracksuit bottoms/shorts and a short sleeve t-shirt/tank top.
- What should I expect from my first Acupuncture session?
The effect of Acupuncture can be different according to the condition treated. In cases of pain relief the effect can be immediate or take a couple of days. Sometimes the patient can experience a healing crisis, which means the symptoms get worse for a day or two before getting better. It is best to discuss with the practitioner to assess case by case.
- What should I expect after my first Acupuncture session?
After your session you may feel relaxed and very calm, however you may also experience tiredness and possibly sleepiness. For this reason you may want to consider not driving straight after your treatment.
- How many sessions of Acupuncture do I need?
A typical treatment plan requires one or two treatments per week. The number of treatments depends on the severity and chronicity of the condition. Usually 6 to 8 treatments are enough for acute conditions, while chronic cases may take longer.
- Does Acupuncture have side effects?
Acupuncture may present some very mild side effects, which usually self correct. At times a tiny bruise can form where the needle has been inserted. Cupping and guasha are techniques that can be used during an acupuncture session. Cupping leaves a bruise that can last for about 6 weeks, but normally fades after a few days. The same time length is applied to the bruise (sha) caused by guasha, a technique that uses a tool to gently scrape the surface of the skin.
